imagine having a child who’s bursting with things to tell you—but unable to communicate. For Chase Markham, pictured here with his mother Beth, having severe speech dyspraxia meant frustration and misunderstandings. The disorder has left him primarily nonverbal. Luckily, when Chase had sessions with his speech therapist, he could communicate using her specialized iPad. But the rest of the week, he did not have access to this technology. His father, a chef, was out of work and unable to afford an iPad and the other devices Chase needed to communicate. Health insurance would not cover the purchase.
The Markhams turned to OBRF and were given $1,378 for their son’s technology needs. Chase can now use these tools on a daily basis, allowing him to communicate with his family and enjoy being a little boy.
The Outer Banks Relief Foundation eases financial burdens for those who live and work on the Outer Banks and are struggling due to illness, disease or tragedy.
“We hope to make donations in your name to benefit OBRF so they may continue to help more families like Chase’s.”
